Portia Wells

Portia Wells is a trans choreographer and multimedia artist based in Lenapehoking (NYC). Their work spans choreography, performance, technical dramaturgy, production management, drawing, writing, and sound design. Their interdisciplinary practice investigates and fragments the queer dancing body in the studio, at the club, on the stage, in public, and in the dark. Through conversation, autoethnography, improvisation, live text manipulation, (often outdated) media equipment, and durational practices of clubbing and cruising, Portia traces, translates, and adds to a queer archive.
Their work has been shown at EstroGenius festival, BAAD!, Green Space, The Kraine Theater, the cell, and Downtown Art. He is the Technical Coordinator and Adjunct for the Dance Department at Hunter College where he teaches Stagecraft, Production, and Crew.
